Melancholy

“Melancholic and fascinated, such is our general situation in an era of involuntary transparency.” ― Jean Beaudrillard, Simulacra and Simulation

This quote by Jean Baudrillard captures our sense of fragmentation caused by information overload and the constant pursuit of success. Often we feel unbalanced and unable to cope with today's fast pace of life. However, the appeal of the appeal and the prospect of information transparency still exist. We see new opportunities and push boundaries. This transparency is not always voluntary. It is often enforced through social media and government surveillance systems. We become transparent to others. The unspontaneous transparency created by the complex and contradictory state of melancholy and attraction is a characteristic feature of modern life.
